Performance Funding
The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education's Board of Governors established the performance funding program in July 2000 to reward the universities for demonstrating success and continued improvement in key areas related to student achievement, university excellence and operational efficiency. The amount of funding awarded to the universities has been increased every year, from $2 million in the first year to an amount equivalent to 8 percent of PASSHE's educational and general fund appropriation this year ($38.7 million).
Eight measures are used to evaluate university performance and to determine the amount of performance funding each university receives. All of the measures relate to goals included in PASSHE's five-year strategic plan. In the end, it comes down to asking ourselves three basic questions:
